Cold Storage Kids Run 2013

Besides visits to the playground and beach, I look forward to fun outdoor events where we get to exercise as a family. The Cold Storage Kids Run is one such example.

Cold Storage Kids Run is an annual running event for kids that aims to encourage the young ones to start early with healthy lifestyle and eating. This event, which started in 2008, is Asia’s first kids-only running event. This year, the Kids Run was held on 19th May at the Padang (sorry I’m running a little behind on my posts!)

There are both fun run and competitive events for children ranging from 6months old to 12 years old. The fun run is a family affair,  where parents and grandparents get to run with the children. Kids are divided into different categories according to their age groups.  This year, C was in the Sunshine Orange Chase for 5-6year olds, while G was in the Singapura Finance Blue Sky Chase for the 2-4year olds.

On the day of the run, weather was perfect. No rain, just plenty of sunshine!

C was excited about participating for the second time this year. G, on the other hand, was not too excited about his first run.

According to reports, there were more than 20,000 people at the event – 5,000 kids and 15,000 parents, grandparents and supporters. The crowd was huge! Everyone was dressed in sports attire, and there were also parent paparazzi lined along both sides of the road, cameras ready to capture their little ones on the go!

C couldn’t wait to run. The hot weather made her a little grumpy during the wait for her race to start, but once the starting horn sounded, she was off like the wind, grinning from ear to ear. I had a hard time keeping up with her! Imagine me running with a camera in hand, trying to take some decent shots.

Last year, she had to be encouraged halfway through the circuit. This year, she was an energizer bunny, running, jumping and hopping her way to the finish line. Can you tell that she really enjoyed the run?

At the end of the 800 metres, she was presented with a medal and a certificate.

And G? Well, the poor tired little guy slept for the entire 800 metres, in his Daddy’s arms. I guess the weather was too hot and the wait a little too long. Oh well, maybe next year 🙂

These precious momentos will be going into their scrapbook, along with the snapshots of mummy and daddy running along with them 🙂 We’ll definitely be back next year!

This is a great idea for kids! I would do it if there was one near us. I don’t really care what sport my kids involve themselves in as long as they are in one. We travel for a living and mine are still only 1 and 3 but as soon as we are stable the oldest one gets involved in a sport. I think it’s especially healthy for kids who stay at home and are homeschooled to go to a place where someone other than mom and dad are in charge; it builds a healthy respect for authority and great leadership skills 🙂 Looks like your daughter had a blast too!
